I am recently asked on a frequent basis what types of knife handles my company has, so let me summarize the types of handles we have.

Handle types can be divided into 3 major types. One type has a plastic collar ring. Another has a buffalo horn collar ring. The other has a wood collar ring.

In terms of shapes, the handles with plastic collar rings are chestnut-like or ellipsoidal. The handles with buffalo horn collar rings are chestnut-like, ellipsoidal, or octagonal. Most expensive handles are octagonal.

1. Plastic collar ring handles – The color is black or marble.
(a)Poplar
This is one of the most common knife handles probably because the price is the most reasonable.

(b)Chestnut Tree
Since the color is black, it looks expensive, although the price of collar ring is reasonable.

(c)Others: Millettia stuhlmannii, Cherry Tree, Japanese zelkova, Walnut and Rosewood
These are not common handles in my company, but if you would like, we will attach these handles with blades.

2. Buffalo Horn collar ring
(a)Japanese bigleaf magnolia wood
This is one of the most common knife handles because Japanese bigleaf magnolia is strong for water and reasonably soft. Since Japanese bigleaf magnolia wood is strong for water, its color does not be changed so much and it is hardly decayed.

(b)Yew
The color is beautifully orange.

(c)Ebony
Since the color is black and it is heavier than other handles, it looks expensive. It is often attached with high-grade blades.

(d)Others: Japanese zelkova, Walnut, Rosewood, Chinese quince, Birch and Bombay black wood

3. Wood collar ring – The colors are various, such as red, brown and gray.
(a)Rosewood

(b)American Cherry

(c)Others:Japanese zelkova, Walnut, Ebony and Satine

We can also insert 1, 2 or 3 silver lines or cultured marble lines on handles. I think this type of handle is the most expensive in Japan. It is beautiful, so it looks high-grade. It is common to insert silver lines on ebony handles with buffalo horn collar rings.
